Doing "Man" Work

I woke up today, after practically not seeing my husband for over a week, and decided that I was going to mow the lawn for him. I thought it was only fair since I came home from work the other morning and he had done the dishes for me. After a long struggle with our son to pick up his toys before he could come outside with me, I first grabbed the wheel barrow and picked up all the presents our dog leaves behind for us. I get out the mower and have to ask my five year old if he knows how to work it since I have never touched one before. Luckily for me, he gave me a quick tutorial on how it actually works! I check the gas, I think, could have been the oil for all I know and it looks rather empty, but it starts. Afraid I am going to run out of gas I try pushing the heaving machine at a fast pace. This makes me about heave over and die after about 2 minutes. But I got it done! Even did the front yard! I was rather proud of myself and was more than willing to do this for my husband since he is on his 6th straight day of being out on the road, even going in bright and early this morning to get some overtime.

It is really the small things that we do for each other, like the dishes, or mowing the lawn, that put a smile on our faces when we have just missed each other at our house. Although I would much rather spend time with my husband than mow the lawn for him, I know he appreciates the smalls things like this and duty calls. While I am sitting at home with our son figuring out what game to play next, he is literally keeping our streets safe.

No one ever said that being married to a cop was easy, and it sure isnt! But we get through it and learn to cherish the time that we get to spend with each other.

Here is my grass, in all its glory:
